The Danger of Stereotypes

How stereotypes shape our views and perspectives.

Stereotypes distort views of all people in cultures around the world. Stereotypes involve associating members of a specific group with an established, and often unchanging, belief about that group. Our topic is based on stereotypes between Mexican immigrants and upper-middle class white American citizens in the novel The Tortilla Curtain . Dangers can arise from attributing stereotypes to groups because stereotypical views are often skewed and bias. This blog will examine stereotypes from multiple perspectives in order to develop a collective understanding of stereotypical opinions.
